تتحول (طواحين الكلام) بإرادة واعية من محيي الدين اللاذقاني إلى مرايا اجتماعية وفنية ووجدانية وسياسية للنفوس الحرة والعقول النيّرة الجسورة. وكما بدأ المؤلف طواحين كلامه بفاتحة النساء فقد اختتمها بالعشق، ومع ذلك، فليس الكتاب كله عن الحب وشؤون القلب والوجدان، بل فيه شعر وغناء من طبيعة أخرى، وفيه شخصيات عربية وعالمية مثيرة للجدل عاشت على حافة القلق والشكوك، وأبدت فناً مختلفاً وأدباً اخترق حجاب السنين، وظل محتفظاً بالنضارة والبهاء اللذين يلقيان بالمتمردين الأصلاء؛ ولأن السياسة صارت خبز الإنسان العربي في الألفية الثالثة، لم يستطع دون كيخونه المعاصر أن يهملها، وهذا لا يعني أنه استسلم لمنطقها الجاف البليد ولكنه أحالها إلى كوميديا سوداء، وسخر من عجرفة بعض ممارسيها، وكشف ما يحيط بهم من أوهام ومجاملات يتقطر من أطرافها الزيف والنفاق. لقد طمح محيي الدين اللاذقاني من وراء ذلك إلى أن تكون طواحين الكلام صوتاً للضعفاء والمقهورين ونبلاء الروح والضمير، محددة ذلك الطموح الذي حلم به (تربانتس) قبل عدة قرون.
