إن النص المتجذر فى التجربة الأنسانية, والحامل لموقف كونى من الوجود والإنسان, والمراهن على الجمال والحرية, لايمكن أن يكون حداُياً مهما كانت قدامته التاريخية, وقد حان الوقت لإحداث نقلة نوعية فى التفكير العربى من قضية الحداثة, ووضعها فى إطارها الصحيح, فهى ليست معاكسة للقدامة, ولا مرتبطة بزمن نعاصر أحداثه, لكنها قوة صاهرة تجمع خلاصات الجذر مع تجارب العصر, وتدخل فى أفق مثاقفة كونية لا يربطها ولا يحدها مكان, فهى كالضوء الذي يظل متصلاً ومستمراً وقادراً على الحفاظ على إشعاعه فى حالتى الظهور والكمون, وإذا تعذر على البعض رؤية ذلك النور, فهذا لا يعنى ابداً أنه لم يكن فى متناول إبصارهم وعقولهم, لكنهم شاؤوا لأسباب يطول شرحها ألا يبصروه.
وقد اهمل الذين لم ينتبهوا إلى أن كل ثقافة يستحيل أن تتطور إلا من داخلها المنجز التراثى للحداثة العربية, وهذا ما تحاول مداخل هذه الدراسات التنبيه إليه فى خطو تطمح إلى ماهو أبعد من إزالة شبهات سوء السمعة التى حاقت بالحداثة العربية ومصطلحاتها خلال نصف القرن الأخير.
