يسكن الأكراد في الأقسام العليا في نهر الفرات ومناطق وآن (أرمينيا القديمة) (ف.ف. مينورسكي – الأكراد)، هي مهبط الأرض القديم التي ظهر فيها الأكراد. وان الأقسام الجنوبية من طوروس وسواحل دجلة اليسرى (بوتان – خربوط – الزاب الأعلى) هي الوطن الأم للشعب الكردي في الأزمنة التاريخية القديمة. وعلى ذلك فإن وطن الأكراد في فجر التاريخ هي الأقسام الشرقية الجنوبية للمناطق الثلاثة (السلاسل الجبلية العليا في أرمينيا كردستان تركيا – وجبال فارس الغربية) هو موطن الأكراد. سلاسل جبال زاغروس وطوروس (جبال زاغروس وجنوب غرب إيران, تمتد من فارس وشيراز جنوباً وحتى كرمنشاه وهمدان شمالاً, وجبال طوروس جنوب تركيا, تمتد من قيصرية ونهري سيحان وجيحان شرقاً وجبال انطالية غرباً وبين زاغروس شرقا وطوروس غرباً تقع سلسلة جبال كردستان شمال غرب إيران وكردستان العراق (الباحث) ويعد مثل هذا الوصف المختصر لأرض كردستان ما يقربنا وكأنها عظام الظهر لهذا الوطن الذي يمتد على مرتفعات كبيرة فوق البلاد المحيطة به. لذلك تشمخ بعض قمم الجبال فوق المناطق المجاورة مثل جبل (آرارات) الكبير الذي ترتاح عليه سفينة نوح (عليه السلام) وهو يصل إلى ارتفاع 16.200 قدم (وجبل الجودي) له نفس المنزلة وارتفاعه يصل إلى 16.500 قدم (وجبل نمرود داغ) يرتفع إلى 10.400 قدم وجبل (سيبان) الذي يتغنى به الجميع يرتفع تقريبا إلى 11.330 قدم وكل هذه الجبال تغطيها الثلوج أكثر فصول السنة.
