قدم الدكتور غينثر داشنر (إبان العام 1941) العديد من الأفلام الوثائقية.
وهو مؤلف وناشر يهتم منذ عدة سنوات بالمسألة الكردية.
وقد اكتسب صفة الخبير بهذه المسألة بعد نشره لعدة كتب وتقديمه العديد من التقارير.
زار كردستان مراراً وتحادث مع الناس العاديين، ومع أشهر القادة الأكراد، وأقام صداقة وثيقة مع الزعيم الكردي الأسطوري مصطفى البرزاني، كما أجرى مع خليفته مسعود البرزاني، وكذلك مع جلال الطالباني، وزعيم حزب العمال الكردستاني عبدالله أوجلان عدداً من المقابلات.

يعتبر الكرد بالاستناد إلى عددهم الذي يربو على ثلاثين مليون نسمة، بعد العرب والأتراك والإيرانيين الشعب الرابع من حيث العدد في الشرق الأوسط ـ ومع ذلك فإنهم شعب لا دولة له؛ ومنذ نهاية الحرب العالمية الأولى، وبعيداً عن رغباتهم، توزع الكرد مرغمين في كل من تركيا وسوريا وإيران والعراق، وعلى الرغم من ذلك فقد ظلت مسألة تمسّكهم بحقّ تقرير مصيرهم الوطني حية إلى اليوم.
يتعرض المؤلف الذي زار المناطق المأهولة من الكرد مراراً، وتعرّف شخصياً إلى قادتهم في كتابه الجديد إلى الواقع السياسي، وإلى القدر التاريخي لهذا الشعب، كما يتعرض إلى حياتهم وإلى اللحظات المأسوية في ماضيهم، كما إلى آمالهم ورؤاهم. وفي الوقت نفسه يعطينا صورة عن هذا البلد العظيم الممتد من جبال أرارات التورائية إلى الخليج الفارسي، ومن دجلة والفرات إلى المرتفعات الجبلية في إيران، وهذا يعتبر، إلى حدّ كبير، السبب الأول لنشوء النزاعات التي توالت…
