كان قد شاع منذ انتهاء صلاة العصر خبر اكتشاف مقبرة جماعية في أطراف مدينة كربلاء وهو ما أعلنه المؤذن من علياء مئذنته انتشر صوته في المدينة عبر مكبر الصوت بانفعال أشد من المعتاد ذلك أنه أب هو أيضا لأحد المختفين.
أما السيد الذي لم يكن قد غادر بيته فكان يحتفظ في الظاهر برباطة جأشه وبعد أن أنهي ركعته الأخيرة لف سجادة الصلاة وركنها في إحدي زوايا الغرفة ثم تناول العمامة وفيما هو يضعها علي رأسه تلاقت عيناه وعينا كنته آمنة كان القلق يستبد بها فيما تنتظر هي الأخري أخبارا عن زوجها ولكن نظرات حميها كانت تدعوها للبقاء في المنزل وهو ما صدعت به.
نزل السيد وحيدا إلي الشارع الرملي لم يكن بحاجة للاستهداء إلي الطريق فعشرات الأشخاص ممن سمعوا نداء المؤذن كانوا يحثون الخطي مهتمين بأن يعرفوا في الأخير مصير عزيز لهم غاب عن أبصارهم منذ سنين .
