تساءل عن زماننا. هذا التساؤل لا يتم في لحظات متميزة، وإنما يتواصل دون انقطاع. وهو جزء لا يتجزأ من الزمان. يهزه بالطريقة نفسها التي يتميز بها الزمان. ربما لا يتعلق المر تماما بسؤال، بل بالأولى بنوع من الهروب داخل الصخب العميق الذي تولده معرفة العالم، و الذي يسبق عن طريقه كل معرفة العالم، و الذي يسبق عن طريقه كل معرفة ويصاحبها. نطرح، في النوم و اليقظة، جملا تتتابع على شكل أسئلة. إنها أسئلة مضجة. ما قيمة هذه الأسئلة؟ وماذا تعني . هاته أيضا أسئلة أخرى. ما مصدر هذا الولع، وهاته القيمة الكبرى التي يحظى بها السؤال؟ السؤال بحث. والبحث بحث عن الجذور. إنه الاستقصاء والغوص حتى عن الجذور. إنه الاستقصاء والغوص حتى الأعماق و الحفر في الأسس وتقصي الأصول. وهو في النهاية استئصال. هذا الاستئصال الذي يقتلع الجذور هو العمل الذي يقوم به السؤال. وهو عمل الزمان. يتقصى الزمان نفسه ويختبرها في عظمة السؤال. الزمان هو دورة الزمان. استجابة لدورة الزمان تقوم إمكانية طرح الذات موضع سؤال في الكلام الذي يتساءل عن طريق الكتابة، وهذا قبل أن يتكلم.
