الكتاب هو محاولة لاستعراض السابق بين الإنسان والحقيقة، الإنسان يحاول أن يطارد الحقيقة ويصطادها، والحقيقة تهرب منه وكلما حاول أن يلقي شباكه عليها عبر وسائله الفكرية والفلسفية والعقلية والعلمية والتكنولوجية، إذا بها تهرب منه قفزات بعيدة، لو عاد إلى نفسه ورفع يديه إلى السماء لوجد الحقيقة تسقط بين يديه دون حاجة إلى أي وسيلة من وسائل الصيد التي استخدمها.
إذن فالكتاب هو قصة هذه المطاردة بين السؤال الإنساني عن الحقيقة ومحاولة الإجابة التي قدمها العقل الإنساني عنها، إنها قصة الفشل الإنساني في مطاردته للحقيقة، لأن الإنسان اعتقد أن بمقدوره وحده ومقدراته الذاتية أن يصل إليها، فوظف الإمكانات الفعلية كلها التي يمتلكها لخدمة هذا الهدف فعاد يخفي حنين، وهو لو استعان بالحكمة الإلهية لوجد أن الحقيقة هي أقرب إليه من حبل الوريد، ولو حاول قراءة ضربات قلبه وماذا تقول لوجد أنها خلاصة المعرفة الإنسانية والحياة الإنسانية، ولو أنصت إليها لوجد أنها تنطق بالحقيقة في كل ضربة من ضربات قلبه لأنها تقول وبوضوح شديد الله الله الله ولا حقيقة إلا الله.
