تعدّ رحلة بيدرو تيخيرا، (المعروف خطأً بإسم تكسيرا أو تاكسيرا)، إحدى أهمّ الرحلات الّتي شهدها الشرق عموماً، والعراق خصوصاً، في مطلع القرن السابع عشر، وهي أوّل رحلة معروفة لرحّالة برتغاليّ في العصر الحديث بحدّ علما. ومع أن عدداً كبيراً من الرحلات الأجنبية وجدت طريقها إلى الترجمة والنشر منذ مدة طويلة، وبأكثر من طبعة وأكثر من ترجمة في بعض الأحيان، إلا أنّ هذه الرحلة الرائعة النادرة بقيت بعيدة عن متناول أيدي المترجمين والناشرين للأسف الشديد، ولم تترجم منها سوى صفحات معدودة أصبحت مرجعاً لكلّ من يريد الإستشهاد بها، وبقي النص الكامل لها بعيداً عن الإهتمام، مع أنّ حصة العراق فيه أكثر من نصف الرحلة، وربّما يعود السبب في ذلك إلى صعوبة النصّ القديم الّذي كتبت به الرحلة، أو لعدم توفّرها، أو للسببين معاً. على هذا الأساس، وإسهاماً منّا في تقديم إضافة مهمّة إلى أدب الرحلات، أقدمنا على ترجمة الجزء الخاصّ بالعراق وبادية الشام من هذه الرحلة، تمهيداً لنشر الجزء الكامل منها، الّذي يتضمّن الرحلة من الهند إلى إيطاليا عبر الطريق البريّ، ولا شكّ في أن ترجمة هذه الرحلة ستسهم في الكشف عن جوانب غامضة كثيرة من تاريخ تلك المنطقة وأحوالها خلال حقبة لا تزال غامضة ومبهمة لدى الباحثين والمؤرّخين.
