كان سيستيني واسع الإطلاع فهو يذكر المؤرخين والجغرافيين القدماء من أمثال: زينينون وبلينمي وسترايون وبطليموس؛ وينوه بأصحاب الرحلات إلى الشرق الذين سبقوه من أمثال: ديللافاليه ونيبور وتافرنييه ودانفيال وواتر فيقارن بين ما قرأه في كتبهم وما رأه بعينيه.
اهتم بذكر أسماء المدن والقرى، وذكر عدداً كبيراً من النباتات والحيوانات، ونوه بالأماكن التي يجب دفع الرسوم فيها ومقدارها، وذكر بعض الأحداث التاريخية، واهتم بالمسكوكات فهي ميدان إختصاصه.
الرحلة مقسمة إلى فصول، ولكل فصل عنوانه وقد حافظت على تلك العناوين، لكني أضفت عناوين ثانوية لتسهيل القراءة، ثم انزلت التعليقات في الهوامش التي رأيت فيها فائدة للقارئ الكريم.
ليس في الكتاب صور ما عدا خريطة واحدة في مطلعه، لكني فضلت إدخال بعض الصور لتشوق القارئ على مطالعة الكتاب، وهي صور مواقع لم تتغير منذ عهد الرحلة مثل الجسر العباسي في زاخو أو المنارة الحدباء في الموصل وغير ذلك.
