كُتبت دراساتٌ كثيرة في مناهج النقد الأدبي المعاصر، وفي تطبيقات العرب لأفكارها على النص، وعُقدت مؤتمرات في النقد ومصطلحاته، وكانت دائماً تخرج بتوصيات منطقية، لكنها، وإن كانت تبصّرنا بواقع ثقافتنا، وتخطط للمستقبل تأسيساً على ذلك، لم تكن تلك التوصيات قادرة على إيقاف إشكالياتنا الثقافية، وربما كانت هذه الأمور من جملة ما دفع الدكتور "عبد العزيز حمودة" إلى نفي إمكانية الخروج من تلك الإشكاليات، بقوله: "إن المناخ الثقافي في نهاية القرن يؤكّد أنه لا يوجد حتى الآن أي بصيص نور في النفق المظلم". ويأتي هذا الكتاب لتأكيد أن ثقافتنا المعاصرة، وإن كانت تعيش إشكاليات متعددة، فإنها لم تدخل هذا النفق المظلم كي تبحث عن بصيص النور، وأن الخروج من الإشكالية لا يقتضي إرتداد العقل العربي إلى الإحياء، ولا إلى التبعية المطلقة للنقد الغربي، إنه يقتضي قراءة تكاملية. تتكون هذه الدراسة من مقدمة، وخمسة فصول هي: الفصل الأول: "خطاب الأسطورة: قراءة في الفكر العربي المعاصر": يحاول هذا الفصل أن يرصد تفسير صورة المرأة أسطوريّاً في الدراسات العربية المعاصرة، ويعرض أهم القضايا التي أثيرت حولها، الفصل الثاني: "خطاب البنية: قراءة في فكر المستشرق أندراس حاموري": يلقي هذا الفصل الضوء على كتاب (عن فن الأدب العربي في العصر الوسيط) للمستشرق الأمريكي أندراوس حاموري، بهدف تحديد منهجه النقدي في تناول شعرنا القديم. أما الفصل الثالث: "خطاب التكامل: قراءة في فكر عبد القادر الرباعي": يسعى هذا الفصل إلى التركيز على كتاب (الطير في الشعر الجاهلي) للدكتور عبد القادر الرباعي، وذلك للكشف عن منهجه النقدي في دراسة شعرنا القديم، الفصل الرابع: "خطاب المصطلح: قراءة في الفكر العربي المعاصر": يسعى هذا الفصل إلى الكشف عن إشكالية المصطلح في الخطاب النقدي وعلاقتها بالمناهج النقدية المعاصرة التي وفدت أصولها إلينا من الغرب، والفصل الخامس: "خطاب المعنى: قراءة في الفكر العربي التراثي": يتتبّع هذا الفصل رؤى النقاد والبلاغيين العرب لغموض المعنى في لغة الشعر.
