من أبرز قصائد هذا الديوان قصيدة (ليلة لا تشبه الليل) التي أعادت إلى الأذهان صورة الطفل الفلسطيني محمد الدرة وهو يقتل برصاص الجنود الإسرائيليين أثناء الانتفاضة الفلسطينية المندلعة ضد الاحتلال الإسرائيلي في الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة. وقال الشاعر الفلسطيني إن أبرز قصائد الديوان تبني صورة طفل يغادر قبره ليلا راغبا في أن يعود إلى سريره الصغير المألوف وأن يطل على أهله ليطمئن على أحوالهم. ويستيقظ أهل البيت لاستقباله, مضيفا أن القارئ يبقى يجهل "هل هذا هو خيال الأهل أم خيال الولد". إن الصمت هو بطل هذه القصيدة وهي قصيدة تصف فداحة مصرع الإنسان المظلوم في الكون ولا تقتصر على قصة الطفل الفلسطيني. قصائد (زهر الرمان) الـ 13 في ديوان البرغوثي الجديد الصادر عن دار الآداب في بيروت يسري فيها تيار متواصل من الحزن والعزلة, وصفه أحد النقاد بالطيور التي "غادرت هكذا ليل أقفاصها, كلما خبطت في جهات الهواء, أبصرت حولها قفصا باتساع السماء".
