هذا الكتاب يعرض بأسلوب مبسط مواضيع مختلفة و هامة في علم البيولوجيا الجزيئية. تنقسم المعلومات التي يتضمنها هذا الكتاب إلى ثلاثة أجزاء، بحيث يهتم كل جزء منه بجانب معين و مهم لهذا العلم. في الجزء الأول تم التطرق إلى شرح المواضيع الأساسية في الوراثة الجزيئية بشكل عام. حيث تم فيه توضيح تركيب و تناسخ المادة الوراثية، التطرق إلى موضوع التعبير الجيني و كيفية تنظيمه. كما نجد في هذا الجزء فصلا خاصا بالأساس الجزيئي للطفور و طرق إصلاح الـ .DNA في الجزء الثاني نوقشت المفاهيم الأساسية للهندسة الجينية. في هذا الجزء يتعرف القارئ على الأسس العامة لهذا العلم الذي يملأ الدنيا ضجيجا و على أهم التقنيات المستعملة فيه. و في الأخير، و نظرا للتقدم الهائل و التوسع الكبير الذي أحرزه هذا العلم، يقوم الكتاب باستعراض في الجزء الثالث بعض الأمثلة لتطبيقات تقنيات الهندسة الجينية في ميادين الطب، الفلاحة و الصناعة.
