البيولوجيا الجزيئية هو العلم الذي يتناول دراسة الكائنات الحية على أنها مركبات كيميائية. وهي بالتالي كيمياء عضوية وهذا الكتاب يعرض بشكل واسع لهذا العلم إذ يبحث بصورة شاملة للمركبات الأساسية المسؤولة عن نقل معلومة وراثية من جيل إلى آخر وتخليق البروتين. كما يبحث في عملية تطور الكائنات الذي يتبع مبادئ الطفرة والاختيار. ويعرض للخواص الشكلية التي تشمل الزيادة في الخواص البيوكيميائية.
كما يعرض المؤلف أيضاً للأحماض النووية، إذ أن معركة البقاء هي مجرد المفتاح لتطور الكائنات حيث السلام القوي في تطور أكثر على أسس الطفرة والاختيار هو الزيادة في كمية الحامض النووي بكل خلية، كما يوضح المؤلف كيفية انتقال الشفرة الوراثية عبر الكروموسوم، الذي هو جزء كبير (حامض نووي ديوكس ريبوزي).
