يشتمل هذا الكتاب على ستة عشر فصلاً حيث يبدأ بتعريف دقيق للخلية والفروق الرئيسية بين الخلية الحيوانية والخلية النباتية يلى ذلك فصولاً أساسية في شرح تركيب ووظائف عضيات الخلية.
ثم توالت الفصول لشرح عضيات الخلية (الليسوسوم - الميتوكوندريا- جهاز جولجي- الشبكة الأندروبلازمية) ثم تطرق الكتاب إلى الدراسات التفصيلية لتركيب الغلاف النووي ودوره في تبادل المركبات المختلفة بين النواة والسيتوبلازم، قبل أن يبدأ بشرح الكروموسومات وتركيبها الدقيق ومكونات الكروماتين (هستونات + د ن أ) وطرز الهيئة الكروموسومية والإرتباط بين الجينات ونظرية العبور الوراثي ودوره في تكوين إتحادات وراثية جديدة. ثم أفرد فصلاً لعرض التغييرات التركيبية في الكروموسومات وآخر عن التغييرات العددية وما ينشأ عنها من نقص في الخصوبة أو الحيوية سواء في النبات أو الحيوان أو الإنسان. ونظراً لأهمية المناعة البيولوجية فقد خصص لها فصلاً تم فيه شرح الجوانب المختلفة للمناعة وأهميتها في الصحة والمرض.
وينتهي الكتاب بفصل عن بيولوجيا السرطان والأساس الوراثي الجزيئي للإصابة بهذا المرض الخبيث وإمكانات التوصل إلى طرق الإكتشاف المبكر للمرض وفرط تشخيصه وعلاجه. وأني إذاً أقدم هذا الكتاب إلى المهتمين ببيولوجيا الخلية من منظور جزيئي (جينومي) من الطلبة والباحثين.
