يقدم هذا الكتاب قراءة مغايرة للصورة النمطية عن شهرزاد كشخصية رمزية تختصر صورة المرأة العربية الضعيفة، الخانعة، الخاضعة لإرادة الرجل وسلطويته المهيمنة في المجتمعات العربية والشرقية منذ عصور؛ فيقدم الكتاب قراءة سوسيولوجية جندرية لشخصية شهرزاد تبرز قدرة المرأة العربية، إن أرادت، على مواجهة مظالم المجتمع الأبوي والثقافة الذكورية عليها، وتوضح أن التمييز ضد المرأة لا يستند إلى فوارق ومميزات طبيعية ثابتة، به هو مسألة ثقافية ترتبط بالعوامل الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والتربوية السائدة في أي مجتمع.
