وطالما أن المعرفة، أو المعرفة التاريخية، مرتبطة بالقوة والسلطة السائدة، فإن عمليات الاستبعاد والتهميش تطال الفئات المحكومة، بما فيهن النساء، حتّى صار التاريخ يسرد وكأن النساء خارجه، الأمر الذي خلق حاجة شديدة إلى خلق تراكم معرفي من الدراسات التي تبحث في التاريخ العربي من منظور يأخذ في الاعتبار التشكيل الثقافي والاجتماعي للجنس، والتي تستفيد من النظريات الحديثة في مجال العلوم الإنسانية والاجتماعية، وتتناول التاريخ من زوايا عبر التخصصات المختلفة..
عام 1928 تجرأت امرأة لبنانية في العشرين من عمرها على التمرد على قانون يحجّب النساء ويفرض عليهن نسق عيش يحجبهن عن المشاركة في دورة الحياة، فلم تثر على الحجاب كزيٍّ مفروض بالقوة على النساء بقدر ما ثارت على الحجاب كوسم جندري جنساني للأجساد أكثر منه وسماً أيديولوجياً – هذه المرأة هي نظيرة زين الدين – نستعيدها لأنّها مهمشة، وقلّما تذكر، ولأننا نتساءل كيف واجهت امرأة ذاك العصر إشكاليات ما زلنا نواجه بعضها..."
