في عام 1334هـ، الموافق 1916م، أصدر الشريف الحسين بن علي من مكة المكرمة جريدته «القِبلة» التي استمرت في الصدور قرابة تسعة أعوام، وقد صدر منها (823) عددًا، إلى أن توقفت عن الصدور في عام 1343هـ الموافق 1925م، مما جعلها مصدرًا مهمًّا من مصادر التاريخ الحديث طيلة هذه السنوات.
وفي هذا الكتاب عكف الباحث عبد الله الرقيب الثبيتي على جريدة القبلة، واستخلص منها «الأوسمة الهاشمية» التي مُنحت لـ (773) من الشخصيات العسكرية والإدارية ورجال السياسة، ورؤساء العشائر ورجالات البادية وموظفي الحكومة، وغيرهم. وقد بلغ عدد الأوسمة الهاشمية (893) وسامًا.
