إن كتاب «البيت: السوسيولوجيا واللغة والعمران» هو الأول من نوعه الذي يستند إلى تقنية علمية حديثة لمقاربة موضوع البيت، مزاوجاً بين التراث المعجمي اللغوي وعلم اجتماع العمارة، وبين اللسانيات والثقافيات، ومستعيناً بنماذج منتقاة من المصادر والمراجع ذات الصلة، ومتناولاً شواهد تاريخية ومعالم تراثية وأخرى راهنة من لبنان والبلدان العربية.
إنه كتاب موثّق يعرض سهلاً ممتنعاً، ويرصد مسارات تطور معاني الألفاظ والمفردات التي يُعنى بها السّكن والسُّكنى ليس بالمعنى اللغوي والعمراني فقط؛ بل أيضاً بالمعاني الثقافية الاجتماعية وتلك الواقعية الخاضعة للتطور والتبدّل في أحوال المعاش كما يقول ابن خلدون. ونعني بها المبيت أي الإقامة والاستقرار، والحُرمة والراحة، والمتمثلة في الخصوصية والاستقلال، والمقياس المعتمد هو الاستعمال.
هو باختصار كتابٌ يُظهّر فرادة وتاريخية البيت اللبناني، ويحفظ في آنٍ تراثنا العمراني والثقافي للأجيال. كما يضع مُخرجات العلوم الإنسانية والهندسية المعمارية في خدمة الخطاب العام، وذلك برفد المعطيات اللغوية المتخصصة ذات الطبيعة المعمارية بالرؤية الثقافية لمعنى العمران. وهي رؤية تطورت في البيئة اللبنانية منذ ظهور الاهتمام بالتزاوج الحاصل بين المسألتين الثقافية والإعمارية في مجال النهوض الاقتصادي وبناء الدولة، وتبلور الوظائف ذات الأبعاد الاجتماعية العُرفية والتقليدية وتلك النفسية والمعنوية لمفهوم البيت.
