النقد التطبيقي الجمالي واللغوي في القرن الرابع الهجري هو الموضوع الذي اخترته لهذه الدراسة وذلك لأسباب يمكن حصرها فيما يلي :
1- إن الدراسات التي تناولت النقد القديم لم تول الجانب التطبيقي اهتماماً خاصاً ، فهي يمكن أن تقسم إلى أربعة أنواع ليس فيها نوع خاص للنقد التطبيقي .
2- إن الدراسات التي تناولت النقد الأدبي القديم في القرن الرابع الهجري ، وركزت على الإتجاهات كانت من جهة قد نحت منحى نظرياً كما فعل الدكتور قاسم مومني ، فهو وإن قسم إتجاهات النقد الأدبي إلى اتجاهين أساسيين هما الإتجاه النظري والإتجاه التطبيقي فإن كان يستهدف من وراء دراسته القضايا النظرية .
3- خلو الساحة العربية المعاصرة من الدراسات التي تحدد بوضوح معالم النقد التطبيقي من حيث المفهوم والوظائف والمجالات والخصائص التي تميّزه من النقد النظري .
