لم تكن القصة القصيرة في منطقة جازان، بمعزل عن القصة القصيرة في المملكة العربية السعودية، وإنما هي جزء لا يتجزأ منها؛ إذ أنها قد مرت بمراحل مشابهة لما مرت به نظيرتها القصة القصيرة في المملكة العربية السعودية. من هنا جاء اهتمام الباحثة بتول مباركي لدراسة القصة القصيرة في منطقة جازان منذ نشأتها في عام (1375هـ) حتى نهاية عام (1427هـ) دراسة تحليلية نقدية، وهو أول عمل نقدي أكاديمي متخصص في النقد والأدب، يسعى إلى التعريف بالقصة القصيرة في منطقة جازان، وإبراز خصائصها وسماتها ودورها الفني في الأدب السعودي الحديث.
وفي هذا الإطار سعت الباحثة مباركي في دراستها هذه إلى سبر أغوار القصة القصيرة في منطقة جازان، وتقديمها بصورة علمية ومنهجية، وفق مخطط يتكون من تمهيد: تحدثت فيه بإيجاز عن نشأة القصة القصيرة في الأدب السعودي ومراحل تطورها... مع الإشارة إلى تعدد أجيال القصة القصيرة في منطقة جازان. يتبع ذلك أربعة فصول: الفصل الأول يشمل القصة القصيرة في منطقة جازان بين النشأة والتطور والنضج، والفصل الثاني يضم قضايا القصة القصيرة في منطقة جازان وتشمل: القضايا الاجتماعية والإنسانية والفقر والموت والقضايا الوطنية والعربية والإسلامية وغيرها، وأما الفصل الثالث فيهتم بالبناء الفني في القصة القصيرة في منطقة جازان، ويشمل: دراسة الحدث والشخصية والزمان والمكان ولغة الصياغة والعرض، ويقوم الفصل الرابع والأخير على عقد موازنات حول القصة القصيرة في جازان، وحديث عن أربعة أجيال كان لكل جيل بصمته وسماته. وأخيراً خاتمة ونتائج الدراسة.
