نورا، الصبيّة المشغوفة بالحياة، طريحة السرير في المستشفى. تنتظر، وهي في حال مترجّحة بين الغيبوبة العميقة واليقظة العابرة، أملاً غامضاً بالشفاء. أمل يستفيق ويغفو على وقع مجيء الأطبّاء وذهابهم، وترقّب الأمّ والأب والأخوات الثلاث، وقلق الحبيب، وأسئلة الأقرباء والزوّار.
إبّان الانتظار، تسترجع بعض ذكرياتها في لبنان أيام الحرب، وفي باريس ونيويورك، حيث خلّفت حكايات حبّ خائبة.
حوادث وأخبار ومواقف تموج على لسان الراوية التي تمزج الحاضر بالماضي، بلغة رقيقة وادعة حيناً، ومتوتّرة محمومة حيناً آخر، تجعل القارىء كالسائر على حبل البهلوان، مشدوداً إليها منذ المشهد الأوّل إلى الخاتمة.
رواية ملتصقة بالحبّ والصبا والترابط العائلي المتين، وطالعة من تقلّبات المنفى والتعلّق الشديد ببلاد على فوهة حرب فتّاكة.
