ابن كنان (1074 - 1153 هـ = 1663 - 1740 م)
محمد بن عيسى بن محمود بن كنان: مؤرخ، حنبلي من علماء دمشق.
يقال له: ابن زين التقاة.
له كتب، منها (الحوادث اليومية - خ) [ثم طُبع] أرخ به 23 سنة، و (المروج السندسية - ط) في تاريخ الصالحية (بدمشق) و (حدائق الياسمين - خ) في أخلاق الملوك والخلفاء، و (الاكتفاء في مصطلح الملوك والخلفاء - خ) و (المواكب الإسلامية - خ) في وصف الشام، و (تاريخ معاهد العلم في دمشق - خ) و (مختصر حياة الحيوان - خ) و (تلخيص كتاب الملاحة - خ) و (مجموع - خ) فيه خمس رسائل له، أولها (الرسالة المفردة في أربعين حديثا مسندة) في شستربتي (3548) و (الدرر المنضد في أصحاب الامام أحمد - خ) في 300 ورقة، اختصر به (المنهج الأحمد) للعليمي (في فهرس المخطوطات المصورة: القسم 2 من الجزء 2 ص 57)

Book Description
هي يوميات تغطي الفترة من عام (1111هـ) حتى وفاة ابن كنان سنة 1153هـ وهي السنة التي وصلها البديري الحلاق بكتابه (حوادث دمشق اليومية) حيث بدأ يومياته من عام 1154 وانتهى بها عام 1176هـ. واختار ابن كَنّان أن يبدأ يومياته من عام (1111) لندرة هذا التاريخ، وصادف أنه العام الذي توفي فيه المحبي صاحب (خلاصة الأثر في أعيان القرن الحادي عشر). بخطه في جزأين. وامتاز الجزء الأول بخطه الحسن وانتظام أوراقه وغزارة المادة التاريخية فيه، بينما شاعت في الجزء الثاني الفوضى والغموض وتداخل الأوراق، حتى إن ابن المؤلف نفسه الذي تولى ترتيب الكتاب قال: (وعجزت عن ترتيبه فجمعته كما هو خوف الضياع لأنه لا يخلو من فائدة)
