" الدومينيكا في البيض " العنوان الذي اختاره " غوستاف ما يرينك " لعمل روائي يضج بالروحانية والقداسة عن شخص إسمه كريستوفر تاوبنشلاغ هو كائن غير مرئي قادرٌ ، بطريقة غامضة ، على التأثير في إنسان في كامل وعيه والتحكّم به وتوجيهه حسب مشيئته ، فهل شخص كريستوفر تاوبنشلاف مجرد بشير ؛ هل هو رمز ، هل هو ، كشخصية ، القناع المتوالد ذاتياً لقوةٍ عديمة الشكل ؟
سيشكل البحث عن مفتاح اللغز ، الذي يحيط بشروط وجود كريستوفر تاوبنشلاغ بالنسبة للروائي مجالاً للسرد والتفكر والتأمل ، وليقود بالنهاية القارىء إلى فكرة تقول : " إن كل إنسان تاوبنشلاغ ، ولكن ليس كلّ إنسانٍ كريستوفر ، معظم المسيحيين يتوهمون ذلك ليس ألاّ ، عند المسيحي الحقيقي تطير الحمامات البيضاء و ... " . من هنا يقدم الروائي أخبار بطله كما حدثت ، ولكن في صورة غير مترابطة ، كحياته التي يجهلها منذ أن تركته أمه رضيعاً أمام باب كنيسة مريم ذات صباح ، وبرقبته كان مكتوباً على قصاصة معلقة بها إسم " كريستوفر " هذا الإسم الشيء الوحيد الذي زودته به أمه ، لذلك أحس أن شيئاً مقدساً منذ القدم ، انطبع في جسده ، وحمله معه طوال حياته كشهادة معمودية صادرة عن عالم الأبدية ، كوثيقة لا يستطيع أحد أن يسرقها منه ...
ليست هناك في هذه الرواية ، أي حدود فاصلة بين الفانتازيا والواقع ، بين العبقرية والجنون ، بين الموتى والأحياء ، بين الروح والمادة ، تختلط الأشياء والأحداث والشخوص مع قوى خفية ، تتصارع ، ويبزغ من بينها - من بين صراعاتها الشريرة - شعاع حب نبيل ، نقي ، ومؤلم .
ولكن ، هل يكفي هذا الخيط الرفيع من الضوء لاستمرار الحياة ؟
