ينتمي الأب أوغسطين مرمرجي الدومينكي إلى الرسالة الدومينكية، هو عراقي النسب كان مولده في بغداد سنة 1881 وكانت وفاته في القدس سنة 1963، وهو ينتمي إلى عائلة عريقة في القدم موصلية النشأة بغدادية الإقامة، كان يجيد مجموعة من اللغات الشرقية القديمة كالسريانية والعبرية والأرامية والبابلية ولغات حديثة كالإنجليزية والفرنسية، وهذا الأمر قد تجلى في كتاباته العميقة والجديدة، وقد تنوعت كتاباته في موضوعات أهمها - اللغة العربية والساميات - البلدانيات - الكتاب المقدس - في الدين والفلسفة والإجتماع والتاريخ - نشر تسعة كتب وله مجموعة أخرى مخطوطة، أما مقالاته ودراساته فقد نشر أكثر من خمسين منها وقد جمعناها هنا وقدمنا لها بدراسة عن حياته ونتاجه ومنهجه.
