يشكل ديوان "شرفات الخريف" الجزء الثاني من ديوان "عواصف القلب" الذي نال حفاوة كبيرة عند صدوره عام 1989، وترك أثراً واضحاً في الحركة الشعرية على مستوى النقد والكتابة.
يقول الدكتور إحسان عباس عن الديوان: "مع إبراهيم نصر الله اتخذت القصيدة بعداً جديداً، حيث استطاع أن يضع إطاراً واضحاً لها، وأن يكون من أوائل الشعراء الذين استأنفوا انتباههم إلى قيمتها وفاعليتها.
والقصيدة عنده تترك في نفس القارئ أثرين متباينين: شعوراً بالاكتفاء، وإيحاء مسترسلاً، كما تترك لهفة إلى مزيد، ولكل من هاتين الحالتين دورها الإيجابي في نفس القارئ، إذ ليست اللهفة أقل إثارة من الشعور بالرضى"
