بعد المصير الذي تلقَّته المَلَكيَّة في فرنسا انطلقت الحملات الفرنسيَّة لمحاربة مضادِّيها والاستيلاء على مَمَالكهم، وفي عام ١٧٩٨م، تَقرَّر شن حملة غزو مصر بقيادة «نابليون بونابارت» بهدف ضرب الإمبراطورية الإنجليزية في الشرق، وبعد استيلائه عليها شن «نابليون» عام ١٧٩٩م حملة لغزو بلاد الشام خوفًا من رغبة الدولة العثمانية في استعادة «مصر»، والتي باءت بالفشل وانتهت إلى اتفاقيَّة صُلح عام ١٨٠٠م نُقِضَت شروطها، فاندلعت الحرب من جديد بين جيش «نابليون» وجيش الدولة العثمانية بمساندة الإنجليز، وانتهت إلى اتفاقية صُلح جديدة عام ١٨٠١م كان على إثرها انسحاب الجيوش الفرنسيَّة من مصر بصورةٍ نهائية..
في هذا الكتاب يبدأ المؤلف في سرد لمحة موجزة عن الثورة الفرنسية ومصير الملكية في فرنسا، ثم ينتقل إلى وصف مسير بونابرت إلى مصر بحراً، وحروبه فيها واستيلائه عليها.
ثمَّ ينتقل بعد ذلك ليصف حملة بونابرت على بلاد الشام وحصاره لقلعة العريش، واحتلاله لغزة ويافا، وباقي معاركه في بلاد الشام ،ثم حصاره لعكا وعودته عن ذلك الحصار بعد أن أصيب جيشه بالطاعون، ووصول أنباء من فرنسا بأن مؤامرة تحاك ضده ،
ينتقل المؤلف، بعد كل هذه التفاصيل المثيرة، إلى وصف القتال الذي جرى بين الفرنسيين من جهة وبين الإنكليز والعثمانيين من جهة أخرى.
ثمَّ بلغة شعريَّة أقرب إلى العامية منها إلى الفصحى، وببعض المَيْل لتمجيد المُحتلِّ الفرنسي، يسرد المؤلّف حكايات العامَّة عن الحملة الفرنسية .
