يعد ديوان المعلم نقولا الترك من عيون الشعر العربي، فمؤلفه، نقولا بن يوسف بن ناصيف آغا الترك (1763-1828) عاش سباق النهضة الأدبية في لبنان، وبذلك فهو يعطي صورة صادقة لحياة الشاعر وعصره وأسفاره بين مصر ولبنان، وإقامته في دير القمر وتنقلاته في المدن والقرى اللبنانية، وزياراته للأمير بشير جنبلاط ونزوله على بعض الأمراء والمشايخ، أو في أديرة الرهبان وغيرها من معالم ذلك العصر.
وعليه يكون "ديوان المعلم نقولا الترك" بجزئيه الأول والثاني قد رافق حياة الشاعر الخاصة والعامة، محتوياً على نحو خمسمائة قصيدة ومقطوعة تتناول، بلغة القرن التاسع عشر، حقبة حافلة بالأحداث من حقب التاريخ، فتصورها سياسة وإدارة، واجتماعاً، وثقافة، وديناً، وأخلاقاً وعادات وتقاليد، إضافة إلى ما تشير إليه من أحداث طبيعية وغرائب مناخية، وكوارث مفاجئة. وبهذا يغدو الديوان ذو قيمة تاريخية ولغوية وشعبية هي شاهدٌ على عصر معين.
ولديوان نقولا الترك هذا، نسخ عديدة منتشرة في مختلف المكاتب اللبنانية عامة وخاصة، ومنها ما تجاوز لبنان إلى المكاتب المصرية والأوروبية. وهي في أكملها تشتمل على ستة أقسام قام بدراستها وضبط نصوصها وشرحها الدكتور فؤاد أفرام البستاني تحت عنوان "ديوان المعلم نقولا الترك" وتوزعت على ستة أقسام:
1- القسم الأول: كتاب العموم: 228 قصيدة ومقطوعة منها أرجوزة الطاعون.
2- القسم الثاني: كتاب الهجو والمزح والتنكيت: 37 قصيدة ومقطوعة.
3- القسم الثالث: كتاب الدّر النضير في مدح الأمير: 117 قصيدة ومقطوعة في مدح الأمير، منها أرجوزة الصيد.
4- القسم الرابع: كتاب الزبور الإلهي: نظم (10) مزامير: التسعة الأولى والمزمور الخمسون.
5- القسم الخامس: كتاب المقامات: (11) مقامة.
6- القسم السادس: مدح الشيخ بشير جنبلاط: (57) قصيدة ومقطوعة.
