هل عاد دوستويفسكي مرة أخرى إلى الحياة ليكتب نصّاً أدبيّاً نُشر تحت اسم كنوت هامسُن؟ أم أنّ هناك بالفعل روائيّاً آخر يستطيع أن يصل إلى ذروة التحليل النفسي في شخوص أبطاله بقدر ما كان يفعل دوستويفسكي؟...
لقد ذهب أحد الروائيين إلى حدود الإقرار بأن هامسُن تخطّى دوستويفسكي نفسه، قد لا أتفق معه بشكل كامل ولكن - بعد قراءة أسرار - يمكن أن أقول إنّ هامسُن وصل إلى مناطق مخيفة في النفس البشرية لم يصل إليها دوستويفسكي نفسه. لم أتخيل بأنّي سأقول هذا الكلام في يوم من الأيّام، ولكن هامسُن فعلها بجدارة، وكانت مفاجئة بالنسبة إليّ، مفاجأة لم أتخيّلها حقاً.
في هذه الرواية لا يسرد كنوت هامسُن بل يضرب، وكأنّ ما يكُتُب به النصَّ مطرقة وليس قلماً، مطرقة تحطم وتبعثر، ولكنّ هذا الضرب السردي مقدود من لغة عذبة وشعرية للغاية.
يحفر هامسُن في أعماق شخصيّاته ولا يكفّ عن الحفر... من قال إنّ هناك عمقاً قد ينتهي؟ ففي النهاية لا وجود لغير هاوية سحيقة، هاوية لا قرار لها!...
