يحتفي كتاب "مسرح محمود الشاهدي دراسة سيميائية" بمسرح هذا المخرج الذي أعلن عن أسلوب وخيارات جمالية وأفكار تحدده وتميزه عن غيره. ومنه يحتفي الكتاب بالمسرح المغربي المعاصر، والذي عرف في السنوات العشرين الأخيرة طفرة هامة وأبرز خصوصية في الجمال والأفكار تميزه عن المسرح المغربي في عقود سابقة. ويرى مؤلف الكتاب أن المنهج السيميائي هو من أنجع المناهج لمقاربة الظاهرة المسرحية. فهو قادر على قراءة المرئي والمسموع وليس المكتوب والمقروء فقط. فهو منهج لتفسير النص والصورة معا. وقد تجاوز بذلك المناهج التي تحفل بالنص متجاهلة العرض المسرحي.
أما بخصوص مسرح الشاهدي فهو يستدعي المنهج السيميائي، فهو مسرح متعدد، يقتبس الموسيقى والرقص ويعتصر الجسد ويستنطقه، فهو مسرح الصورة والجسد. كما يستغل الشاهدي في مسرحه وسائط عديدة كالميكروفون والشاشات وغيرها، ويحتفي بالثقافة المغربية ويشغل مرادفاتها العديدة. والسيميائيات عموما هي منهج التعدد، يمكن قراءة المتعدد والمندمج والمتشابك من العناصر.
وأحمد السبياع هو كاتب وباحث مسرحي، رفد المسرح المغربي بنصوص مسرحية عديدة، واشتغل مع مخرجين ومخرجات كثيرين. وهو حاصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة ابن طفيل في موضوع "جمهور المسرح المغربي
