لقد عُنيت البحوث والدراسات النقدية في الآونة الأخيرة بموضوع العنوان بوصفه المدخل أو العتبة التي يجري عليها التفاوض لكشف مخبوءات النص، وإذ عد العنوان جزءاً مهماً من أجزاء النص ومفتاحاً له ورأساً لجسده، فإن الحاجة إلى معرفته أكثر عبر التداخل النهجي أصبحت ملحة طالما وفر العنوان فهماً يُضاف إلى فهم المتلقي للنص.
وحيث أن أغلب الدراسات النقدية وهي تتناول موضوع العنوان كانت تتناول نموذجاً واحداً من النصوص الشعرية لشاعر واحد، فإن ذلك في نظرنا لا يمكن أن يطلع بالعنونة علماً ووظائف وسمات في شعر محدد بعينه، كما في الشعر العراقي الحديث، فدراسة الدكتور مالك المطلبي ومحمود عبد الوهاب والدكتور سمير الخليل تمثل هذا المنحى في التناول وهي تدرس نصاً وشاعراً بعينه، غير أن دراسة العنوان في الشعر العراقي الحديث بأجمعه تمثل محاولة للخروج بنظرة شاملة وسمات عامة تؤطر بإطار نظري يشمل الشعر المشار إليه كلاً لا جزءاً؛ لذا فالحاجة إلى دراسة العنوان في الشعر العراقي الحديث صارت أمراً ملحاً بعما توفر للباحث المتن النقدي في نصوص نظرية علم العنونة ونماذج من النصوص الشعرية.
وبناءً على ما تقدم، تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معاينة علم العنونة عموماً، والعنونة في الشعر العراقي الحديث خصوصاً، لما لها من أهمية كبرى في قراءة النص الأدبي والوقوف على مقصدياته عبر العتبة الأولى وهي العنوان.
