قانون تتابع الأصوات يختص بالضوابط التي تقيد إمكانية تسلسل مجموعة من الأصوات دون غيرها في لغة معينة. مثلا في العربية الفصحى لا يجتمع ساكنان وفي يابانية لا يتتابع حرفا س وت ساكنان ولا تبدأ الكلمة الإنجليزية بحرفي ك ون وإن أثبتا كتابة.
