المؤلف : ستيفن غولد استاذ الاحياء والمتحجرات في جامعة هارفرد , واحد ابرز الاسماء العلمية الامريكية في لزمن المعاصر , تبنى افكار حول الداروينية تختلف احيانا مع ما تبناه داوين نفسه مثل “التوازن النقطي” حيث يرى ان التطور ليس تدريجياً كما يرى داورين بل حدث ويحدث بدفقات كبيرة تتلوها فترات خمول وسكون وهو بذلك لا يرى اي تعارض بين هذه الفكرة والانتخاب الطبيعي , كرس غولد جهود كبيرة لمحاربة العنصرية العلمية ومحاولة تسويق علم الاحياء لتبرير الظلم الاجتماعي .
