... كان الشاب مشنوقاً ومثبتاً على شجرة الخروب الهرمة، في وضع عبثي إلى حدّ بدا معه أشبه بفزاعة عصافير أو دمية كرنفال مفتوحة الساقين منه بجثة. تراهم مثلوا به بهذا الحقد غير المحدود مثل قتله أو بعده: كان أنفه وفمه مشقوقين، وعلى جسده خثارات دم جاف، وكدمات وشقوق، حروق سجائر (...) كان حافياً، وعارياً من خصره حتى قدميه، وليس عليه سوى قميص داخلي ممزق. إنه شاب نحيل، أسمر، وبارز العظام (...) إنه أحد جنود الطيران هؤلاء الذين جاؤوا بهم إلى القاعدة الجوية في حملة التجنيد الأخيرة - وانتعشت ملامح العجوز - إنه هو: البيوراني الذي يغني ألحان البوليرو ..." ولكن هذا وحده غير كاف لحل لغز معرفة من قتله... !؟
