هكذا بدأ محمد بن حامد الأحمري كتابه ملامح المستقبل الذي يُعتبر رحلة تغوص في المستقبل، وترصد المؤشرات والإنجازات التي تحققت لاستشراف المستقبل، مشيراً إلى أن مسافات الاستشراف تختلف بين الناس، لأن من يخطط لخمسة قرون قادمة يختلف عن الذي يخطط لقرن آتٍ.
إن الكتاب عرض لقضايا وأفكار متفرقة، جاءت أشبه بالمقالات، وكل مقالة تدور حول محور معين مثل: الإعلام، وانتشار الوعي العام، واللغة، والانفتاح على الغرب، والعولمة والحركة القوميّة، والثقافة المقاومة... وغيرها من المحاور.
ويختتم المؤلف باعتباره أن الزمن لا يعود، وأن صياغة المستقبل تحتاج إلى مزيد من الدعوة والاجتهاد، فعلى المرء بذل جهد أكبر للإمساك بتفاصيل عصره وفهمه، وأن يتطور ويحيا داخل تجاربه ليكون أجدر بالتأثير فيه والتأثّر به.
