فهذا الكتابُ الذي بين يديكَ -أيُّها القارئُ الكريمُ-، الذي عنوَنْتُه بـ «مَعِيـنُ الأَدَبِ»، هو ثمرةُ نصوصٍ أدبيَّةٍ كتبتُها في أوقاتٍ مُختلِفَةٍ، وعلى فتراتٍ متفرِّقةٍ، منها ما هو قدِيمٌ، ومنها ما هو حدِيثٌ، جمعتُها كما هي، بعد نظرٍ وتأمُّلٍ، لتكونَ بين يدي كلِّ مَن يُحِبُّ الأدبَ العربيّ، ويأنَسُ به، ويجِدُ فيه متنفسًا يُخفِّفُ عنه شيئًا من تعبِ الدنيا وهمومِها.
وأنا، أيُّها القارئُ، لا أزعمُ الكَمَالَ، ولا أدَّعِي السَّلامةَ منَ النَّقصِ، فالعمَلُ عمَلُ بشرٍ يخطئُ ويصِيبُ. لذلك أرجُوكَ أن تقرأ هذا الكتابَ قراءةَ إنصافٍ وترَوٍّ، فإن وقفتَ على خطإٍ، أو لاحَ لك موضِعٌ يحتَاجُ إلى نظرٍ أو تصوِيبٍ، فنبِّهْنِي عليه غيَرَ متردِّدٍ، فذلك ممَّا أفرَحُ به، وأعُدُّه عوْنًا لا انتِقَاصًا؛ إذ الكَمَالُ عزِيزٌ، والنَّقصُ طبْعٌ مُلازِمٌ للإنسانِ. ويُسعدُنِي كذلك رأيُكَ الصَّادقُ، تشجِيعًا كان أو ملاحظَةً، فكلُّ ذلك محَلُّ تقديرٍ واعتبارٍ.
