إذا كان الكتاب، يقرأ من عنوانه، كما يقال، فإن عنوان هذا الكتاب "مارون عبود: لطائف وطرائف"، ولا نزيدن.
يصدر الكتاب، لمناسبة المئوية الأولى على ولادة مارون عبود، التي تحتفل بها الأوساط الأدبية، في لبنان، طوال هذه السنة 1986، فيساهم في إحياء ذكرى رجل نذر نفسه لرسالة التعليم ومجد الكتابة، وكان فيهما مجلّياً.
مهّد لهذا الكتاب، العلامة الدكتور فؤاد إفرام البستاني بمدخل، تناول فيه وجه مارون عبود الفرزدقي القسمات، وشخصيته الجاحظية. ومما قاله:
... كان تحرّي المنقّبين في تركات من يهتمّون بترجماتهم، علّهم يجدون من النوادر البسيطة، والنكات الحميمة، والمواقف الطريفة، والأحاديث الخاصة، والاعترافات المستورة، ما يوضحون به، على وجه أكمل، وفي إطار أشمل، صور الشخصيات التي يُعنون بإظهارها. ومن هنا كان همّ صاحب الكتاب في ما تفرغ له من جمع نوادر مارون عبود، ونكاته، وانفعالاته، وأجوبته المُسكتة، وبوادره اللاذعة، وفكاهاته، التي سمّاها "اللطائف والطرائف"...
لطائف مارون عبود وطرائفه، الواردة في الكتاب، تلقي أضواء على نفسية صاحب "وجوه وحكايات" و"فارس آغا"... لا بل أنها تكشف عن خصوصياته وحميمياته رافعة الغطاء عن مخبآتها.
