بينما كان يجلس وحيدًا في زنزانته حزينًا يراقب جُدران السجن الذي تتساقط منه حبَّات الرمل من سقفٍ متهالكٍ، أخذ يتمحَّص يمينًا ويسارًا ويداه تتسلَّلان بخفة ليتحسَّس بها علامات ورموز مَن كان قبله على جُدران السجن، وكأنه يتحسَّس سنوات الألم والحسرة والندم، إذ به يسأل نفسه: كيف حدث ذلك؟ لم يُصدِّق هول الواقعة، يحرق ابنته بدمٍ بارد، ولكن لا مفر، لم يكن أمامه خيار آخر سوى بتر ذلك الطرف الشيطاني الاصطناعي الذي ظلَّ ينخُر في كامل أعضاء أسرته.. تلك هي نهاية البداية.
