نص روائي مبتكر، استخدم المؤلف تقنيات فنية كثيرة وأحسن توظيفها، وعلى رأس ذلك وأهمه استخدام تقنية القصة داخل القصة أو القصة الإطار، فبرزت مقدرة الكاتب على بناء المتخيل السردي والابتكار فيه. وظهر أيضا الوعي من الكاتب بأدوات كتابة السرد العربي القديمة وإعادة توظيفها. كما نجح الكاتب في توظيف تقنية الحلم أكثر من مرة، إلى جانب التقنيات الزمنية المهمة مثل الاسترجاع، والاستباق الذي لعب دورا كبيرا في رسم الأحداث المستقبلية لدى مصائر الشخصيات. هذا إلى جانب البتر السردي، والسرد المتوازي الذي استخدمه الكاتب بمهارة وخصوصا عند الانتقال بين القاهرة والمدينة. واحتل الخيال مساحة واسعة في الرواية، مع تميزها بالإثارة في مواضع كثيرة منه ولا سيما في رحلة صالح من القاهرة إلى غدير المسافرين أو رحلة أحمد والمجموعة من الغدير إلى المدينة. مما أكسب العمل قدرة على تحقيق الإمتاع.
