العقل هو مجموعة من القوى الإدراكية التي تتضمن الوعي، المعرفة، التفكير، الحكم، اللغة والذاكرة. هو غالبًا ما يعرف بملكة الشخص الفكرية والإدراكية.
العقل مقره القلب كما دل على ذلك الكتاب والسنة، قال الله تعالى: (أفلم يسيروا في الأرض فتكون لهم قلوب يعقلون بها)، «الحج: الآية 46»، وقال: (ولقد ذرأنا لجهنم كثيرا من الجن والإنس لهم قلوب لا يفقهون بها)، «الأعراف: الآية 179»، والعقل وإن كان مقره القلب فله تعلق وارتباط بالدماغ وثيق يتصرف فيه.العقل من أعظم النعم يميز به الإنسان بين الحق والباطل، وبين الخير والشر، وبين النافع والضار، أودعه الله بدن الانسان .....
