كتاب (فضائل القرآن) لأبي الفداء إسماعيل بن عمر (المعروف بإبن كثير)، المتوفي سنة 774 هو ملحق وتتمة لتفسير إبن كثير المشهور، كما وقع التصريح بذلك في آخر النسخة الخطية التي قال في آخرها: (آخر كتاب فضائل القرآن وبه تم التفسير)، وعدد ورقاتها 46 ورقة وإسم ناسخها محمد بن أحمد بن محمد المقرىء البغدادي. وأما تاريخ نسخها فهو في سنة 759ه وفيها اختار الحافظ إبن كثير أحسن الطرق في تفسير القرآن مثل الرواية عن مفسري السلف، وتفسير القرى، بالقرآن، وتفسير القرآن بالسنّة والأحاديث والآثار المسندة عن أصحابها. وكذلك تفسير القرآن بأقوال الصحابة والتابعين. ولأن تفسير إبن كثير من التفاسير التي تحظى بقبول واسع لدى الناس، عمل الأستاذ محمد أنس مصطفى الحسن على مقابلة الكتاب مقابلة كاملة على النسخة الخطية الآنفة الذكر، مع عزو الآيات القرآنية إلى مواضعها من السور. وتخريج الأحاديث والآثار والأقوال. وأخيراً تقسيم الكتاب بعد الشرح إلى أبواب منها في كيفية نزول الوحي وأول ما نزل، وفي جميع القرى،، وفي ذكر كُتّاب النبي (ص)، وفي نزول القرآن على سبعة أحرف، وفي عرض جبريل على النبي، وفي فضل القرآن على سائر الكلام (...)، وأخيراً ذكر الدعاء المأثور لحفظ القرآن وطرد النسيان.
