يعد كتاب "الفصوص" أعظم مؤلفات ابن عربي كلها قدراً وأعمقها غوراً وأبعدها أثراً في تشكيل العقيدة الصوفية في عصره وفي الأجيال التي تلته، فقد قرر مذهب وحدة الوجود في صورته النهائية ووضع له مصطلحاً صوفيّا كاملاً استمده من كل مصدر وسعه أن يستمد منه، كالقرآن الكريم والحديث وعلم الكلام والفلسفة المشائية والفلسفية الأفلاطونية الحديثة والغنوصية المسيحية، والرواقية وفلسفة فيلون اليهودي، كما انتفع بمصطلحات الإسماعيلية الباطنية والقرامطة وإخوان الصفا ومتصوفة الإسلام المتقدمين عليه.
ولكن صبغ هذه المصطلحات جميعها بصبغته الخاصة وأعطى لكل منها معنى جديداً يتفق مع روح مذهبه العام في وحدة الوجود، فخلَّف بذلك ثروة لفظية في فلسفة التصوف كانت عدة متصوفة وحدة الوجود في العالم الإسلامي عدة قرون.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب، اعتنى بالتعليق عليه الأستاذ أبو العلاء عفيفي وهو دكتور في الفلسفة من جامعة كمبريدج.، إتماماً للفائدة.
