الفصل الثالث: أضواء على العالم المعاصر، ويتناول الحديث فيه عن التجربة الأمريكية والحقل المتاح من الحرية للشخصية الأمريكية وتأثير هذا عليها وعلى العالم، وفي هذا الفصل يتسع الحديث للكلام عن الأيديولوجيات وبعض الأمور الخاصة بالتسلح والحرب النووية، ومن ضمن السبع مقالات التي يحتويها هذا الفصل مقال عن العقل البشري والعقل الإلكتروني والعلاقة بينهما في الحاضر والمستقبل، ومقال عن سارتر وفلسفته التي تتناول الإنسان، ومقال أخير يختتم الفصل والكتاب عن التجربة الموسيقية بين الحضارات وتوضيح أن هذه التجربة سطحية وسيئة عندنا
