يمثل الكتاب دعوة لصحوة عربية تتمثل في ضرورة إيجاد موطئ قدم للعرب في مجال العلم الحديث. وهذا بدوره يمثل دعوة إلى تغيير نظرة ومنهجية العرب اليوتوبية التي تمنعهم من الخوض في مجالات علمية وتكنولوجية في عالم الأسلحة والتسليح. ويقول المؤلف بأننا في البلاد العربية نخدع أنفسنا إذا تخيلنا أن هناك عالماً مثالياً، فلا ينبغي أن نفكر على هذا النحو. فلو اتخذنا القرار مثلاً بمنع التجارب النووية وأسلحة الدمار الشامل بدافع أخلاقي وحباً في الإنسانية، ألا يعني ذلك أن نظل في موقف الضعيف أمام إسرائيل التي تملك ترسانة نووية كبرى.
وهذا التفكير نوع من العبث أو الجنون. فالوضعية هي الفلسفة الرسمية للمجتمعات القوية والحكومات التي تسعى للسيطرة على العالم. أما ادعاءات اليوتوبيا الفاضلة فما هي إلا خداع كامل قد ينطلي على المهزومين الذين يرسمون نهاياتهم بأيديهم ومهما يدعي أصحاب اليوتوبيا والدعوة إلى الأخلاق والحدّ من قسوة العلم وقوته، لا أحد يستطيع وضع حدّ لقدرات العقل الاستكشافية فعلى الرغم من المخاطر التي قد يواجهها العالم فإنها لا تساوي الكثير في مقابل ما تعطيه الروح العلمية المنطلقة. فالعالم العربي ليس بحاجة، وهو في مواجهة العولمة ومحاولة دخول القرن الحادي والعشرين إلى نظريات النقد الأدبي وإيديولوجيات الماركسيين بقدر حاجته إلى نظرية أو بالأحرى فلسفة تؤكد لديه المسار العلمي والتقني الذي يدفع بالغرب إلى قلب العالم وهم يقفون على مستوى العصر.
