قد يعترض كثيرون على ترجمة هذا الكتاب، بحجة أنه إسرائيلي، وإن ما فيه من معلومات، يبقى إسرائيلي المنحى، برغم ما يدعيه من موضوعية. كلام صحيح لا غبار عليه، لكن ألم يكن القول دائماً أن أول الطريق إلى هزم العدو معرفته؟ حرب الظلال يكشف، من منظار إسرائيلي، أسرار العلاقات الإسرائيلية مع بعض القوى اللبنانية ومراحل الإعداد للحرب ضد المقاومة الفلسطينية، وتفاصيل ترشيح بشير الجميل لرئاسة الجمهورية، وما كان سيحدث بين لبنان وإسرائيل لولا انفجار الأشرفية. إن هذا الكتاب يضيف وثيقة مهمة إلى الوثائق التاريخية المتراكمة في صراعنا مع العدو الإسرائيلي وهو بهذه الصفة سيخدم كل محاولة من محاولات تقييم القصور السياسي والاستراتيجي الذي يحكم طريقة تعاطينا مع "المسألة الإسرائيلية"، ويكاد في كل سياقه يعيد علينا الفصول والأساليب إياها التي اتبعتها إسرائيل قبل استلابها فلسطين وبعد ذلك من 1956 وحتى الغزو الأخير للبنان... ونحن على ما نحن عليه من أساليب لا تتناسب في مضمونها وخططها ما يتضمنه الوجود الإسرائيلي من مخاطر على وجودنا.
