تيرينتس فرانسيس إيجلتون (ولد في 22 شباط 1943 في مدينة سالفورد) هو أحد أهم الباحثين والكتاب في النظرية الأدبية ويعد من أكثر النقاد الأدبيين تأثيراً بين المعاصرين في بريطانيا، وهو أستاذ الأدب الإنجليزي حالياً في جامعة لانسيستر وهو أستاذ زائر في جامعة أيرلندا الوطنية في غالواي.
وقد كان قبل ذلك أستاذاً للأدب الإنجليزي في جامعة أكسفورد في الفترة (1992- 2001)، كما كان أستاذ الأدب الإنجليزي في جامعة مانشستر حتى العام 2008، وسيعود إيجلتون إلى جامعة نوتردام في قسم اللغة الإنجليزية.
كتب إيجلتون ما يزيد عن 40 كتاباً من بينها حارس البوابة وهو مذكرات لإيجلتون يظهر فيها أن الماركسية في حياته ليست مجرد نظرات فكرية تأملية، بل إنه كان ناشطاً في المنظمات الماركسية وكان ذلك أثناء وجوده في أكسفورد.
