إن هذه الدراسة عن ثورة تموز/يوليو ليست نوعاً من السلفية التاريخية، ولا هي نظرة بالحنين والشجن إلى الماضي، بل هي محاولة لفهم الحاضر، والتطلع إلى المستقبل. لأن حقبة بالغة الأهمية والخطورة بين 23 تموز/يوليو عام 1952 إلى 28 أيلول/سبتمبر عام 1970 لا بد لها -إذا كان محتماً تجاوز حديث الذكريات أو الحنين والشجن- وإذا أرادت استعادة قوة اندفاعها في الحاضر وتأهيل نفسها للمستقبل، من مراجعة نقدية أصيلة تلتزم بالمبادئ، لكنها تعطي نفسها أوسع مجالات الحرية في مناقشة التطبيق.
وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى القيام بهذه المحاولة الموضوعية لتقويم ثورة 23 تموز/يوليو، من أجل:
تعريف الأجيال الصاعدة، داخل مصر وخارجها، بإنجازات هذه الثورة وممارستها.
تقديم تقويم نقدي لهذه الثورة، بنجاحاتها ,إخفاقاتها، وإيجابياتها وسلبياتها.
محاولة التعرف إلى مدى وكيفية الاستفادة من خبرة هذه الثورة في صنع المستقبل العربي.
