كنت دائماً عندما يقترح علي أحدهم أن أوثق رحلاتي و تنقلاتي في هجر المملكة و قراها، ليس لأنني لا أحار جواباً، بل لأن الفكرة غير مقبولة غالباَ، وذلك لأنني لم أبلغ من العمر عتيا لكي أدون ما أمر به، فلقد اعتدنا نحن العرب على الاعتقاد بأن من يريد أن يدون أو يسجل ملاحظات سفره و ترحاله لابد أن يشبه ابن بطوطة أو ابن ماجد، وأن الشيب قد غزا رأسه و لحيته، والزمن قد جعد جبينه وأضعف ظهره وأماله، وما ذلك إلا من هول ما رآه في تنقلاته.
بعد أن نالت الفكرة استحساني، أردت أن لا يكون الكتاب مجرد قصص ومواقف كألف ليلة و ليلة، بل أردت أن أناقش بشكل عملي وشبابي في آن واحد ما يستوقفني من أمور اجتماعية ومظاهر تستدعي الذكر، أحببت أن أدون ما أمر به كل يوم في حياتي العملية من تنقلات من محافظة إلى محافظة، ومن قرية إلى قرية. ليس لأجل نفسي، بل لكي أجيب من كان يسألني عما أفعله في الصحراء أو عن ماهية عملي في كل محفل أو لقاء، فكان هذا الكتاب الذي آمل أن تحد فيه، أيها القارئ العزيز، ما يغني و يمتع و يفيد.
