Book Description
"الكامل في التاريخ" كتاب جمع فيه المؤلف أخبار ملوك الشرق والغرب وما بينهما، وأتى فيه بالحوادث والكائنات من أول الزمان، متتابعة يتلو بعضها بعضاً إلى وقته. ويمكن القول بأن المؤلف جمع في كتابه هذا ما لم يجتمع في كتاب واحد، ومن تأمله علم صحة ذلك حيث ابتدأ بالتاريخ الكبير الذي صنفه الإمام الطبري، فأخذ ما فيه من جميع تراجمه لم يخل بترجمة واحدة منها. قاصداً أتم الروايات فنقلها مضيفاً إليها من غيرها ما ليس فيها وبعد كتاب الطبري لجأ المصنف إلى غيره من كتب التواريخ المشهورة فطالعها وأضاف فيها متمماً ما نقص في معلومات، منسقاً ومرتباً ومتمماً كل الأحداث التاريخية الصغير منها والكبير ذاكراً في كل سنة لكل حادثة كبيرة مشهورة وترجمة تخصها، فأما الحوادث الصغار التي لا يحتمل منها كل شيء ترجمة، فإن المصنف أفرد لها ترجمة واحدة في آخر كل سنة، وإذا ذكر بعض من تبع وملك في قطر من البلاد ولم تطل أيامه، فهو يذكر جميع حاله من وله إلى آخره عند ابتداء أمره، لأنه إذا تغرق خبره لم يعرف للجهل به، ذاكراً في آخر كل سنة من توفي بها من مشهوري العلماء، والأعيان والفضلاء، ضابطاً الأسماء المشتبهة المؤتلفة في الخط المختلفة في اللفظ الواردة فيه بالحروف ضبطاً يزيل الأشكال. فكان كتابه حقاً الكامل في التاريخ.
