لكل موجود إن حقّقت حياة، الجبال والأنهار، والمدن والعمارات، كلها حية تولد وتموت، وتشب وتهرم، وتصح وتمرض، هذا الأموي الذي جاء المؤلف عارضاً خطوطاً من صورته، وملامح من تاريخه، له حياة طويلة، ولحياته تاريخ طويل، تاريخ لا يُدري إلا ببعضه التاريخ، لأن الأموي ُولد قبل أن يكتب التاريخ، لا يعرف أحد من الذي وضع الحجر الأول فيه، ولا متى شيد صارع النار والدمار، وثبت على الأدهار، والإعصار، تكسرت على جدرانه موجات القرون كما تتكسر الأمواج على صخرة الشاطئ، ثم ترتد عنه ميتة وهو حي قائم، ذهبت أمية بمالها وسلطانها، ولبث وحده يخلد في الدنيا اسم أمية، فكان أبقى من كل ما نالت أمية من مال ومن سلطان، كان معبداً من أكثر من ثلاثة آلاف سنة، وتداولته أيدي اليونان والرومان وأقوام كانوا قبلهم، ثم صار للمسيح ثم انتهى لمحمد. وتتوالى الأيام ليصبح مدرسة دمشق، فيه تعقد الحلقات، وتدرس كافة العلوم، ولأهميته هذا الصرح الديني عمد المؤلف إلى جمع كل خبر ورد عن الأموي، ليقدم خلاصة ذلك في هذا الكتاب الذي هو نتاج أربعين سنة من استقصاء المعلومات والأخبار؟ وقراءة أمهات الكتب التاريخية.
