الكتاب يطرح فكرة نظرية جديدة عن الرواية اقتبست اغلب افكار الكتاب من جان ريكاردو في كتابه القضايا الجديدة للرواية, حيث الافكار المهمة كانت نصب التفكير المعرفي لي للنقد وقد تفوق الكتاب على الكثير مما نشر في ذات المجال, حيث كانت الطروحات غير ملموسة سابقا بالرغم من كون هناك مفاهيم واصطلاحات متداولة, لكن المعرفة النقدية التي اعمل عليها جدد تلك المفاهيم .
